South Florida rap artist Uzi brings to the table an incredibly infectious energy that you feel when you meet him and that permeates throughout his music, especially in his latest mixtape, Keep Watchin. When you meet Uzi, you can't help but get excited about his music and his career as an artist. His energy is palpable and his work ethic is incredible. At 23 years old, Uzi talks like a seasoned vet in the game and has a clear vision and plan for his future.
Growing up in a Nigerian household, there wasn't much R&B and rap music in his house but at the age of 14, Uzi discovered and fell in love with rap when he was exposed to rap's underground scene. An incredibly intelligent individual, Uzi has studied the rap game and all of it's variations of styles and flow, drawing inspiration over the years from artists like Tech N9ne, Z-Ro, K-Rino, Outkast, Cee-lo, Field Mob, UGK, Chamillionaire, Twista and Jay-Z. When he began freestyling and rapping in school-yard rap battles, his peers were his first motivators always commenting on his lyrical skills and his hallway freestyling sessions would draw small crowds. At the age of 17, Uzi really began to think about rapping as a career and not just a hobby and made a decision to pursue a career in music writing and freestyling every chance he got.
A student of the game, Uzi has studied and picked apart different rap styles to create his own unique flow. In an interview with Muzique Magazine, Uzi describes his flow as "Frankenstein, a monster made of many different parts." His "Frankenstein" flow consists of a quick, yet clear delivery with concise story lines littered with punchlines and metaphors. Uzi's lyrics are smart and thought-provoking with a crazy feel-good energy.
In 2011, Uzi took the craft he had been honing to the studio and recorded his first mixtape, Straight Flows Volume 1: The Blitzkreig. With 12 songs of straight freestyles, no hooks just rapping, Uzi was determined to blaze onto the scene with his raw talent in the forefront. Straight Flows got some local DJs and promoters to pay attention to the rising star as he snapped on songs like "Shine and Recline, " and "I Go H.A.M." even putting out videos for both songs and for "One in A Million" and "Hustle Hard."

With momentum from his building buzz, Uzi released the Keep Watchin mixtape on February 15th of this year. After displaying his lyrical prowess in Straight Flows, Uzi wanted to put together a more complete rap album with a collection of new songs on original beats with a couple freestyles thrown in. Keep Watchin is a collection of 17 songs that displays Uzi's versatility as an artist. The mixtape features everything from club bangers to street anthems to slow-tempo-ed songs. Keep Watchin will make you dance, vibe and think but most importantly it will open your eyes and ears to a true talent.
