Miami rap artist, Grief lives and breathes music and from the microphone tatted on his neck, there's no doubt that he's most at home in the booth behind a mic. Grief's presence behind the mic is marked by his deep and daunting voice that feels almost sinister; it's no wonder his artist name is Grief. The depth in his voice and the grim reality portrayed in his lyrics coupled with bounce-worthy tracks allows his fans to feel both the joy and the pain of Grief's life.

Sunday's Videos: Common Covers Nas plus more on Ivy League Videos
Common covered a verse from Nas' "Life's a Bitch" in this cool visual shot by Court Dunn and cinematographer Mike Florio for 2DopeBoyz.com and Restless Films. This is a definite good look for all involved and creates excitement for Common's upcoming album The Dreamer/The Believer, which I'm sure will be nothing less than stellar.
This is the reason I love Hip-Hop.... watch, be mesmerized and then listen to the original... #Classic!
"Now it's all about cash in abundance, niggaz I used to run with

Throwback Thursday: "Sweet Thing" x Chaka Khan & Rufus
The holidays always put me in the mood for real old school R&B and here's a favorite! Chaka Khan singing "Sweet Thing" circa 1975. The voice, the sound, the lyrics, this is R&B at its best! If you love hip-hop, you have to love Ms. Khan and what she and countless other artists of her era did for urban music. Listen, Love, Learn and BE THANKFUL!!!
"I will love you anyway, even if you can not stay.
I think you are the one for me. Here is where you ought to be."

"Been Bout It" is just one of the many hits found on Razor's Mr. M-I-A Vol. 2: The Streetz iz Mine Mixtape released last year. "In the Morning" x Frequent Flyer Los
Here's a new track from Atlanta-based artist, Frequent Flyer Los and it's sexy as ever! Didn't think that "In the Morning" could get any sexier than J. Cole and Drake but LOS does his thing in this remix inviting his girl to "Aye shawty pull my dreads." His wordplay is hot and definitely causes images of an unforgettable night under the sheets. He does it for the ladies this time so I invite you to grab a glass a wine, sit back and vibe with Frequent Flyer Los... he's definitely taking you on a trip! LISTEN BELOW!

NEW: "Pretty Lil Heart" x Robin Thicke
Robin and his soulful sound are back with "Pretty Lil Heart," a typically Robin-Thicke-jazzy record that has Robin asking his lady for some affirmation of their love affair. The record features Lil Wayne at the beginning and the verse is ok. Typical Wayne but nothing that really stands out. Honestly, the song can do without Wayne's verse because its blues-infused melody with Robin Thicke's sexy, smooth and breathy vocals don't need any help at all. This song just feels good! Plus, to listen to a man ask his lady to reaffirm their love in words and actions all while proclaiming his love for her is the type of reciprocal relationship women dream of so it will definitely have the ladies swooning!

Miami's Local Music Scene & The Best in Dade Awards 2011
About two weeks ago I had the privilege of attending the SECOND ANNUAL BEST IN DADE AWARDS hosted by Street Connect DJs. The show, held at SoBe Live in South Beach was the real deal honoring the BEST in Miami-Dade County's hip-hop and entertainment scene. For a full list of winners, CLICK HERE.
More than just bringing together Miami-Dade's rising stars, the Award Show proves that Miami's local scene is very much alive and teeming with untapped talent. SoBe Live, South Beach's premiere hip-hop performance venue and was packed mostly with artists, producers, promoters, DJs, industry insiders and fans... but not nearly enough fans. South Florida is a gold-mine of raw talent and most of it's residents are completely unaware. When groups like the NMB Stunnaz hit the stage, the energy cast into the crowd was electric and performances by MisLP and Young Spook were fantastic. The show even brought out some of Dade's veterans with acts like Piccalo hitting the stage. But a performance by YD, a rapper from Overtown really shut down the show completely!
If you could bottle and sell the undeniable talent exuded from this young group of artists, producers and DJs, you would make millions! The thing is, we can sell it, but why aren't South Floridians buying into the local hip-hop scene? These artists are working hard and making good music. There is definitely a South Florida sound that these artists, producers and DJs have tapped into and are branding. Acts like Rick Ross and Trick Daddy are only the tip of the iceberg and its time Miamians paid attention and showed love to the local scene.
Best in Dade serves to honor those who stay on the grind in an industry that often doesn't show enough love and recognition to those who haven't made it yet. These individuals work diligently at their craft and what Street Connect has done is more than just recognizing the people that work in the local industry but they shed light on a local scene that is still very underground.
I encourage you to check out an underground hip-hop station (Streets FM 89.1, Heavy 92.7, Da Blaze 98.7, StreetConnect Radio 107.1, etc), attend a local artist show or performance and support South Florida's growing and thriving local music scene. You will not be disappointed!
Salute to Street Connect DJs for putting on the show and giving love to the local scene! Salute to all of the artist, producers, promoters, DJs, entertainers, grinders, hustlers, businesses, publicists, A&Rs, bloggers, media personnel and FANS who attended the show and support local music! #SALUTE!
Check out a full list of the winners, more pics and videos from the local artists cyphers done for the show after the jump!

Twenty x Boyz II Men (Album Review)
Review by: Robin 'Oodie' Cooper
When you hear “Motownphilly”, an introduction isn’t needed because Motown fans are no stranger to the Philly product Boyz II Men.The quartet, which usually consists of Michael McCary, Nathan Morris, Wanya Morris, and Shawn Stockman make another attempt at a chart-topping album without bass singer Michael. Being absent for 6 years because of health issues, he declined the reunion. After years of remakes and conflicts with record labels, Boyz II Men release their 20th anniversary LP Twenty, which is their tenth studio album and second under MSM’s Music Group.

Drake's Album Gets Leaked - GET IT HERE
Drake's album leaked over the weekend and his reaction is pretty typical considering that most artists anticipate leaks. Drizzy claims that his producer, 40, is extra protective of their projects, so what happened this time? I always think these leaks come from the artists' own camps for promotional and marketing purposes. Most leaks of major artists' projects don't hurt their record sales much because fans who support will support regardless. On his twitter, @Drake, he wrote:
Listen, enjoy it, buy it if you like it...and take care until next time.
So needless to say, Drake's cool with it. Check out the download link after the jump and also check out the remix to "The Motto" featuring Lil Wayne and Tyga. More importantly though, go cop that album anyway, SUPPORT GOOD MUSIC!!!

NEW: Nas ft. Amy Winehouse - "Like Smoke" (LISTEN & DOWNLOAD)
Nas is back something serious and in this soulful and almost melancholy duet with Amy Winehouse, he proves that he still got it lyrically. Amy lends her famous bluesy vocals to the track adding a sad depth to the song. She really was a real talent and Nas can still kill a song so this one is definitely something special. Listen and Download below.
"I'll be out in Lodon, Camden, hunting for the answers. Why did God take away the homie? I can't say that I'm a firm believer that we all meet up in eternity. Just hope the big man show me some courtesy..." -Nas

Wale's Ambition (Album Review)
Review by: Robin 'Oodie' Cooper
Staying within the roots and passion of his music, DC native Wale reintroduces the world to his ambitious state of mind. For most, the journey has been one worth following. Before reaching mainstream status, Wale’s beginnings consisted of local go-go influenced radio hits that earned him recognition and popularity throughout his hometown. Go-go, which is the DMV’s (DC, Maryland, Virginia) unique style of music still plays a major role and can be heard throughout mixtapes that highlight the start of Wale’s 2005 music career. Working with artists such as Amy Winehouse, Talib Kweli, Chrisette Michele and a variety of other well-known artists, Wale was well on his way before the existence of his first studio album.

Drake Disses Luke & Miami?? NEW MUSIC - LISTEN & DOWNLOAD: "The Motto" & "Headlines Remix"
Drizzy dropped another track off of his upcoming Take Care album, a bonus track called "The Motto" featuring Lil Wayne has some people in the Magic City raising eyebrows that Mr. OVO might've taken a shot at Miami, or at the very least, at Luke. In a recent Miami New Times article, Luke called out Lil Wayne and Young Money (among other celebs) for not doing more to give back to Miami, where quite a few of them reside. In his verse, Drake says:
"Tell Uncle Luke I'm out in Miami too. Clubbin hard, f*ckin women, there ain't much to do. Wrist-blinged, got a condo up in Biscayne. Still getting brain from a thang, ain't sh*t changed."Hmmm... I can definitely see how this is a shot at Luke... and saying that in Miami "there ain't much to do..." Drake gets the side-eye on this one. It's definitely ratchett of him to call out Miami. These dudes are ALWAYS here so clearly, there's something here for them.
Not gonna lie, the song itself is pretty good: decent Drake beat, good flow, nice concept and catchy but dissing the M-I-A is a BIG NO-NO homie!

NEW: "Country Ass Ni**a" x Nelly ft. T.I. & 2 Chainz
Nelly drops "Country Ass Ni**a" featuring T.I. and 2 Chainz and produced by Drumma Boy. The beat and production on this track is tight work! Drumma Boy definitely did his thing with this track. These are three very different artists but the combination works well enough although not really their best verses. By far the standout elements of this song are definitely the beat and the crazy catchy hook! Judge it for yourself:

NEW VIDEO: "Drowning" x T-Pain (Watch & Download)
T-Pain got DEEP on ALL levels: emotionally, metaphorically, lyrically and musically with his new release "Drowning Again" from his upcoming rEVOLVEr studio album, set to drop on December 6. Mr. Nappy Boy, whose known more for auto-tuned strip-club music, strips down and bares all in this very somber, piano-led track. He reaches down to the depths of his emotions and comes up with this amazing song that evokes feeling of loss and grief. T-Pain not only produced the track and plays the piano on it, but he also conceptualized, directed and edited the stripped down yet gorgeous video for the track. Lyrically, this is Pain at his most real and metaphorical evoking feelings of drowning in his emotion with lines like, "When I'm deceased I hope you will be lying next to me in my watery grave, and before we go, I want my baby to know how it feels to be drowning again."
All I can say is... WOW! This is music at it's best: soul-baring and emotion-evoking. You can't listen to this song and not be affected. Salute to T-Pain for this amazing track!

Drake leaks another one from his upcoming album, Take Care, dropping Nov. 15. This man sounds like he's in love and his emo self makes great music plus Wayne add his 2-cents, borrowed partly from Drake's verse on Miss Me... so maybe he only puts in 1 cent? LOL Good song, not his best, but good and definitely evokes feelings of falling...

DEAN'S LIST: NELLY
Since signing with Universal Records 12 years ago Cornell Hayes better known as NELLY has conquered every aspect of stardom: Grammy Awards, #1 hit records and albums, millions of album sales, movies, two clothing lines, endorsement deals and even the superstar girlfriend. With 6 official albums under his belt, Nelly is back in the studio creating musical magic! With his most recent visit to KLUB KUTTERS in Ft. Lauderdale and his appearances at numerous BET Award Show after parties, Nelly is definitely still a favorite on the scene.
ARTIST 2 WATCH: ESQ
From the moment you see him you know that ESQ is not your average rap artist. His impeccable style could easily land him in the pages of GQ Magazine and his cool confidence radiates through his pictures and videos. You don’t have to meet him to see the star quality he easily embodies, and it leaves you wondering, “who is ESQ?”
A professional recording artist, music producer, hip-hop street and ballroom dancer, script writer, actor, speaker, entrepreneur, graphic designer, and published children’s book author and illustrator, ESQ does it ALL but his passion is clearly for music, which he does extremely well. His sound, a mix of funk, 80’s hip-hop and jazz infused with a modern bounce, promotes what ESQ calls “Ageless booty-shaking.” Definitely an artist that crosses genres and age groups, ESQ’s music is a seamless blend of old school instrumentation meets new school flow.

ARTIST 2 WATCH: Bridget Kelly
The Roc Nation's newest R&B sensation is making waves with her newly released EP, Every Girl, showing that the label is far from a boys' club. BK, an NYC native is creating quite a buzz for herself and the EP is only a prequel to her untitled debut album is set to be released in February of 2012. Expect to hear and see a great deal of Ms. Kelly as she gears up to take the R&B/Urban music world by storm with her promotional tour. Her brand of rock and pop infused R&B definitely has a place in today's urban music market and her EP is just a taste of what the talented 23-year-old has in store for us.

THROWBACK THURSDAY JAM: "All Falls Down" x Kanye West
Not exactly our introduction to Kanye, as his first single was "Through the Wire," but "All Falls Down" did what very few artists were doing at the time and still don't do, talk about the insecurities that are really at the core of Hip-hop's materialistic culture. When Kanye claims, "We all self-conscious, I'm just the first to admit it," he redefined "keeping it real" and solidified his arrival. Check out the video starring Stacey Dash.
"I wanna act ballerific like it's all terrific.
I got a couple past due bills, I won't get specific.
I got a problem with spending before I get it.
We all self-conscious, I'm just the first to admit it!"

Luke is Revoking Lil Wayne's, DJ Khaled's & Diddy's Miami Cards
Last week, Miami native and former mayoral candidate, Luther Campbell aka Uncle Luke wrote a stinging article directed at Lil Wayne, Cash Money, DJ Khaled, Diddy and all of the rappers who reside in Dade County. Luke, formerly of the rap group 2 Live Crew and avid supporter and promoter of all things Miami, wrote about his issues with these rappers taking up residency in the Magic City without giving back in his Miami New Times weekly column "Luke's Gospel" on October 4 in the aptly titled: "Lil Wayne and DJ Khaled are Gonna Lose Their Miami Residency." "YOU THE BOSS" - RICK ROSS
Ace Hood ft. Kevin Cossum - "Memory Lane/Spoke to My Momma"
South Florida artist, Ace Hood released "Memory Lane/Spoke to My Momma" from Blood, Sweat & Tears and he definitely shows a more emotional side of himself speaking about the homies he's lost along the way. Ace Hood shows his lyrical skill and allows you to walk down his memory lane to really feel the loss and nostalgia he feels. The track just feels good and puts you in the mindset to reminisce. Kevin Cossum is a great add for the hook and the video is exactly the right storyline, look and feel to compliment the song. Watch it, sit back, reminisce and pour out a lil' liquor for the ones we've lost...
"I love my n***as, see the pain still remain
Know you watchin from heaven, how far that yo n***a came
So I tatted your name to show you I never change."
